Not just a baby is born, a Mother is born as well

What is a doula?

A doula is someone who supports women physically, emotionally, and informationally during their pregnancy and labor. Doulas help to facilitate conversations about the circumstances of your birth, maintain the environment you wish to labor in, and understand your birth process should circumstances change.

Why a doula?

The benefits of a doula have been studied!

  • 39% decrease in the risk of Cesarean

  • 15% increase in the likelihood of a spontaneous vaginal birth

  • 10% decrease in the use of any pain relief medications

  • Shorter labors by an average of 41 minutes

  • 31% decrease in the risk of being dissatisfied with the birth experience

  • 38% decrease in risk of baby having a low 5-minute APGAR

How?

A doula is present starting when active labor kicks in, and doesn’t leave until 1-2 hours after the baby is born. Doulas provide an additional measure of support that allows the partner to be where the mother needs them. Doulas can provide techniques to help labor progress, and also help the parents understand possible changes during their labor.
